What is Panch Kedar Yatra?

The Panch Kedar Yatra refers to the pilgrimage of five holy temples of Lord Shiva, which are believed to be associated with different parts of Shiva’s body. According to legend, after the Mahabharata war, the Pandavas sought Lord Shiva’s blessings to absolve their sins. Lord Shiva eluded them and reappeared in five different forms, which are worshipped today as the Panch Kedar.

The five temples are:

  1. Kedarnath – The Hump of Lord Shiva

  2. Tungnath – The Arms of Lord Shiva

  3. Rudranath – The Face of Lord Shiva

  4. Madhyamaheshwar – The Navel of Lord Shiva

  5. Kalpeshwar – The Hair (Jata) of Lord Shiva
